"He (Justice Karnan) has not come to this temple", said temple executive officer D Bramarambha, in a text message to Mirror.

Justice Karnan is the first judge to be sentenced to jail by the Supreme Court.

But an official at the temple, about 120 km from here, told IANS over telephone that there was no trace of the judge.

Soon after the sentence was pronounced, Justice Karnan called the media to his room in the Chennai guest house and hit out at the top court. "Since then, both his mobile phones are switched off", sources said. Officials of the guest house feigned ignorance about the whereabouts of the judge who shocked the nation on Monday by sentencing the Chief Justice of India and the seven members of the SC Bench for five years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs1,00,000 each under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 and the Amended Act 2015. On arrival, the Kolkata Police met officials at the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office and proceeded to the guest house.

By Wednesday morning, Karan vanished from the guest house.

Meanwhile, Justice Karnan's close aide and his legal adviser, W Peter Ramesh Kumar, claimed that the Calcutta High Court judge is escaping arrest and may have left the country, reported The Indian Express.

Earlier, the apex court constituted a medical board to examine the mental condition of Justice Karnan on May 5 and also directed the DG West Bengal to assist the medical board to get justice Karnan examined. "He took a road route", he said.
