President Donald Trump stunned Washington on Tuesday with his decision to fire Comey, whose agency is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and the possibility Trump associates may have colluded with Moscow.
The Russian embassy in Washington tweeted a picture from the Lavrov meeting of Trump shaking hands with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak, a man at the center of the controversy on Russian contacts with associates of Trump.
Russian Federation and Iran are both aligned with Assad against rebel factions that want to remove Assad from office.
Trump asked Russian Federation to rein in the authoritarian Assad regime of Syria, Iran and Iranian proxies.
He continued that the pair could not address all the US-Russian problems overnight, but said that dialogue between the two countries was now free of the ideology which hampered ties with the White House under Barack Obama.
"The presidents have held a telephone conversation recently, they confirmed their intention to meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in July", Lavrov said following his meetings with both Tillerson and Trump.
The meetings followed a period during which U.S.
According to the State Department, they will discuss ongoing conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.
An agitated Lavrov said, "Was he fired?"
"During the meeting, current issues on the Russian agenda were discussed".

However, the White House attributed Comey's dismissal to his handling of the investigation into Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's email server, but Democrats drew parallels to Watergate-era firings. NBC's Andera Mitchell asked, "Does the Comey firing cast a shadow over the talks, gentlemen?" and Lavrov replied, with feigned shock, "Was he fired?"
Putin said: "Your question seems very amusing to me". Don't be angry with me. He spoke in Russian and his remarks were translated by his spokesman, Dmitry Peskov. "President Trump is acting in accordance with his confident and in accordance with his law, the constitution". Those zones are envisioned under a deal struck by Russia, Iran and Turkey.
Despite the lack of clarity, the possibility of a meeting between Trump and Lavrov would in itself be a sign of some progress.
Trump repeatedly said during his presidential campaign that he would seek closer ties with Russian Federation.
Lavrov said that despite difficulties "our countries can and should contribute jointly to the settlement of the most urgent issues in worldwide affairs".
But Lavrov says the countries must work out who will control security around the safe zones.
Violence reduced somewhat after the de-escalation zones were announced last week, but heavy fighting persists in some areas.
On Tuesday, media reported that Lavrov would meet Trump during the working visit to the United States. Trump on Tuesday abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey, dramatically ousting the nation's top law enforcement official in the midst of the bureau's investigation into Trump's ties with Russian Federation.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who had to recuse himself from the ongoing investigations into Russian Federation after contacts with Kislyak came to light, delivered the recommendation to Trump that Comey be relieved of his duties.
He said "there is not a single fact" or piece of clinching evidence proving Russias intervention in the United States election.
