Grey's Anatomy returns this fall on ABC.

Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven't watched the season 13 finale of Grey's Anatomy. But as we said before, they don't get any easier for us as viewers.

Jerrika Hinton has checked out of Grey's Anatomy: The show's Dr. Stephanie Edwards departed the Shonda Rhimes series during tonight's Season 13 finale.

Rhimes told the publication in the statement that while she was "sad to see Stephanie leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, ' she was 'excited to see what's next for Jerrika" in her career. 'Jerrika has shared so much of herself with Stephanie and I am incredibly proud of the journey we've taken together'. Jerrika asked to be let out of her contract after she landed a starring role in Alan Ball's new series, Here, Now, and fortunately, Shonda approved.

ABC has announced a spinoff from the medical drama Grey's Anatomy, with THR reporting that the network has placed a straight-to-series order for a new series based around a group of heroic firefighters. And when asked if she'd ever return to the series in maybe a year or two, she replied, "I would say, after the way the episode ends, it would be very hard for Stephanie to practice medicine again in the way that she had become accustomed to".

Hinton said Rhimes 'was very supportive of [her] wishes, ' and that she was 'eternally grateful to her for understanding'.

On Thursday's episode, the Grey Sloan Memorial building caught fire, leaving one of the doctors at a career crossroads that causes them to hang up their scrubs.
