Trudeau said in brief remarks to media before the meeting that Canada and Washington are strongly engaged on a number of issues, including openness to trade and an understanding that diversity is a source of strength.
"We share an incredible commitment to defeating climate change and a recognition that we can grow our economies while we're doing that", he said. "And it is a great pleasure we have a national leader on the North American continent who is committed to that".
The state's transportation budget signed by Inslee earlier this week includes $300,000 to study the possibility of a train that would travel 250 miles per hour (402 kilometers per hour) from Vancouver to Portland, Oregon with stops in Seattle and Olympia.
"We ship billions of dollars of goods to Canada and they ship billions of dollars of goods to Washington State".
But cheaper lumber exports from Canada is one of the issues that impacts Washington State.

Trudeau arrived in the state Wednesday to attend and speak at Microsoft's CEO Summit in Redmond. The event, which was closed to the public and media, was focused on topics related to cybersecurity and the race to space.
Trudeau was set to meet with Inslee Thursday morning before the governor heads to Mexico for a trade mission.
Outside the hotel, about a dozen demonstrators protested Trudeau and Canada's extraction of oil from Alberta tar sands, chanting, "Water is life".
