Ukip suffered a near-
wipeout, gaining just one councillor and losing in almost all the wards it was defending.

"Only a Conservative vote at the general election will strengthen my hand to get the best Brexit deal", May told supporters on Friday. Since then, UKIP has been riven by infighting and factionalism.

As expected The Conservatives have made gains while nearly all the other parties have lost ground.

Conservative leader of the council Paul Carter admitted while he was confident of an increased majority, the magnitude of Ukip's plight was greater than expected.

When I said we could do this - people simply didn't believe me.

Meanwhile, the centrist Liberal Democrats - the most firmly pro-EU of Britain's major parties - failed to make the big gains they were hoping for in Thursday's vote. Campaigning is now well under way, against the backdrop of increasingly contentious debate over Brexit ahead of formal negotiations.

LONDON (AP) - British Prime Minister Theresa May appeared on course for a sweeping election victory next month after her Conservatives made big gains in local elections at the expense of rivals on both the pro-EU left and the Euroskeptic right.

The Scottish National Party emerged with the most council seats in Glasgow, South Ayrshire and Edinburgh, though it will not have overall control of any of them.

"I am disappointed at every Labour defeat in the local elections".

The minimum investment requirement is $1 million, unless the project is in a rural area or high-unemployment area. EB-5 investment from China will account for around 15 percent of its total cost of US$976.4 million.

The polls suggest a similarly comfortable victory for the Tories when we return to the polling booths next month, but while Cllr Carter has maximum faith in the prime minister, who he says has convinced a lot of voters on Kent doorsteps in recent weeks, the party can not afford to take anything for granted.

"Mrs May's public dispute with the European Union in recent days - which led to her speaking about standing up to Brussels in an eve-of-poll statement in Downing Street - was particularly fortuitously timed for the Conservatives".

He repeated Labour's challenge to Mrs May to take part in TV debates, contrasting Labour's "open engaging" campaign with the "robotic" appearances by the Prime Minister.

Paul Nuttall, UKIP's leader, should be particularly anxious.

Richard spoke to Cllr Keith House Hampshire County Council, Lib Dem and Martin Lyon UKIP.

However Curtice says this doesn't necessarily mean Theresa May will secure a landslide next month, as the people who turned out to vote aren't necessarily representative of the entire UK.

Astonishingly, the Tories came close to winning control of Northumberland - failing when the two candidates drew lots in a tied ward. However, as Katie Hopkins writes in the Daily Mail, if it was'nt for UKIP we would not have had BREXIT and the Tories have stolen their clothes.

With full results declared by all 88 councils holding elections in England, Scotland and Wales, the Tories had control of 28 authorities, including 11 gains. In England, the swing from Labour to the Conservatives is around 7% while in Wales it's at 5%.

Elections were also held for eight regional mayoral posts in England, six of them newly created.
