Arrest made in stolen firearm from Saugus sporting goods store

A tense scene took shape at the mall amid reports that a man, who Saugus police referred to as "an armed and risky intruder" had gotten into the store at around 4:20 a.m. Monday.

A person who police are calling "armed and dangerous" broke into a mall in Saugus early Monday.

Upon arrival, police say they found the window of the sporting goods store smashed, which is what set off the alarm.

"We worked with the mall very closely, there was a lot of video to go through", said DiMella.

The mall was shut down during the investigation but reopened Monday afternoon.

State Police sealed off the area near Dick's Sporting Goods.

He will face charges of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony, malicious destruction of property over $250, and larceny of a firearm.

Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti said ammunition may have been taken too.

All of the mall entrances are being blocked by police vehicles.

State and local police as well as a regional SWAT team responded. "We want to thank everyone in the community for their patience this morning as we worked through this scene to ensure the safety of all".
