Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is Disney's first 4K Blu-ray

Director James Gunn has confirmed that his Marvel movie "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be the first 4K Blu-ray released by Disney.

Disneys first UHD Blu-rayWhile all other major Hollywood studios were quick to embrace the new UHD Blu-ray format, Disney was hesitant. As Gunn said, "4K UltraHD is nearly certainly the best way you can see this movie at home - with more definition and the most vibrant colors possible on your home screen, and with the brightest brights and the blackest blacks".

- And the important part of this release is not the 4K - the truly different and unbelievable aspect is the high dynamic range with light and color which creates a completely more exciting experience, and is the best thing to happen to cinema in my lifetime, he said.

"We will soon have lots more exciting announcements about the home release and some unbelievably cool additional content, including something that's so wonderful I've been chomping at the bit for months not being able to talk about it!"

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will also have a 3D home release.
