Earlier, all eyes were on 1, Anne Marg, the official residence of Nitish Kumar, as he chaired the meeting of JD-U legislators and other senior party leaders on Tuesday to decide his party's stand on the CBI raids and case against Tejashwi.
Amid the continuing war of words between leaders of the JD (U) and the RJD - partners in Bihar's ruling coalition - over Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav's resignation, State Congress chief Ashok Choudhary on Friday had a long meeting with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. KC Tyagi of the JD (U) today made it clear that a stand-off exists and that the Congress, the third member of the Bihar government, should mediate.
"Tejashwi Yadav will not resign under any circumstances", the RJD chief said and denied speaking to Mrs Gandhi on phone.
Lalu Yadav's son, Tejashwi Yadav, is Deputy Chief Minister; both are accused by the CBI of an illicit land deal. A day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked him to come clean, Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday dubbed the corruption charges against him a "conspiracy" hatched by the BJP brass. All you have to do is to explain your source of income and say how you amassed so much of huge property.
However, JD (U) leaders and spokespersons have kept up their attack on the RJD, asserting that "Nitish Kumar would not compromise on the issue of corruption in any case".
This assertion from the RJD chief thus brought an end to speculations that Tejashwi Yadav might step down from the post to save the ruling alliance.
JD-U spokespersons Ajay Alok and Neeraj Kumar on Friday made it clear that the party will not compromise on corruption and their leader Nitish Kumar has never made any compromise for the sake of power. "He is constantly monitoring the situation in Bihar", a party leader said. The case relates to alleged manipulation in award of contract for maintenance of two hotels run by a subsidiary of the Indian Railways - IRCTC - when the RJD chief was Railways Minister in the United Progressive Alliance government. "I am firm on my resolve of zero tolerance against corruption", Kumar told his party in Patna indicating that a detailed counter to the CBI charges against the Yadav family must be issued.
