The Detroit Pistons are expected to waive second-year swingman Michael Gbinije on Saturday. With the move, the Pistons will save more than $800,000 and eliminate his $1.312 million cap hit.

The exact total is $1.312 million for the 2017-18 season, but Gbinije's contract was only partially guaranteed for $500,000. Coach Stan Van Gundy said they will use their allotment of two two-way contracts. Gbinije would be eligible for one of those two-way contracts if the team chooses to sign him to such a deal.

He also played in 16 games with the Grand Rapids Drive, where he averaged 12 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 35 minutes a game.
