Redskins, Cousins Headed Toward Expensive Contract Deadline

It appears as though Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins will once again be playing under the team's franchise tag come 2017-18. For at least one more year.

If the team can't get Cousins to sign, he will play for the team on under a franchise tag for the second straight season, costing the team $23.94 million.

San Francisco has $66 million in cap space, according to Overthecap.com, leading the National Football League heading into this season. He will also be a free agent again after this season.

Florio said if there is no long term deal after this season, Cousins could make $28.7 million under a transition tag or $37.4 million under a franchise tag. And, on Sunday, that was all but confirmed with just over 24 hours before the July 17 deadline to sign franchise tagged players. The day after the season ends, he and the team will have a chance to negotiate a long-term deal.

Anderson, Root star in frenetic morning session
Yorkshireman Root is championing the Brut Sport Style range while Anderson, a Lancastrian, is backing Brut Original. Root then added a 57-run stand for the fourth wicket with Jonny Bairstow to take England out of the initial slump.

However, the franchise tag will reward Cousins handsomely. Griffin was injured during the playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks his first year and never regained the form that made him the 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year. Shanahan has been credited for grooming Kirk Cousins into an All-Pro caliber quarterback. He threw 4 less touchdowns in 2016 than he did in 2015, and 1 more interception. He signed a two-year, $12-million deal this spring after spending the bulk of his eight-year career as a backup.

By the way, new 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has a great relationship with Cousins from when they were together in Washington for two seasons and believes Cousins is a great fit for his offensive system.

The clock is ticking on the Redskins and everyone from the DMV to across the country is watching closely.

Regardless of all these rumors, there is one thing we can all agree on - Cousins' 2017 season is absolutely pivotal.
