Tata Nexon's India launch confirmed for festive season; specs revealed

Tata Motors, which has marginally expanded its passenger vehicle market share from 5.26 percent in April-June 2016 to 5.46 percent in April-June 2017 thanks to demand for new products like the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa, today announced launch plans for its new SUV - the Nexon.

Commenting on the occasion, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "The engine is the heart of the auto and along with the SUV like design and features, we wanted to offer punchy, responsive and refined engines". The SUV will be using a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol Revotron motor, while the diesel will be an all-new 1.5-litre four-cylinder oil burner from the Revotorq family. The first compact SUV of Mumbai based automaker will also offer new diesel and petrol engines. The Revotron engine will be manufactured at the Sanand facility while the Revotorq engine will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility.

Tata Motors is yet to reveal the fuel efficiency figures on its new engines, but says that the new engine family will offer an unrivalled package of fuel efficiency, performance, and refinement. On the torque front, the 1.5 diesel develops maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1500-2750rpm and the 1.2 petrol outputs 170Nm at 2000-4000rpm.

The Essential Phone is reportedly making its way to Europe, Japan
Essential missed that window for whatever reason, but its ambition to challenge Samsung and Apple is stronger than ever, it seems. For one, the corners are somewhat more honed, which we think gives the phone a more tasteful look.

"Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains", he said. The Nexon will also be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, to begin with. Tata will manufacture the petrol Revotron engine at its Sanand facility, while the diesel Revotorq motor will be produced at the Ranjangaon plant.

Both engines will sport the first-in-segment multi-drive modes - Eco, City, and Sport.

When launched the Tata Nexon is likely to be priced around the Rs 7-10 lakh range. But before we get a closer look at the Nexon in its production avatar, Tata Motors has officially released its engine specifications.
