Aston Villa announce signing of Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan

Aston Villa signed the 29-year-old from Hull this week.

The midfielder will likely back up Mile Jedinak in the middle of the park.

He moved there from Sheffield Wednesday in 2008 for £500K and has since made 337 appearances in a Stoke shirt, while becoming a Premier League regular and sometime captain of the team.

Whelan was a regular under both Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes and was a huge fan favourite due to his industry and tenacity.

Elmohamady, who has previously worked with Steve Bruce at Hull and Sunderland, is the Villans' third signing of the summer so far, following John Terry and Sam Johnstone.
