Kavin Mittal's Hike Acquires Teewe Maker Creo

Homegrown messaging and social media technology company Hike Messenger today said it has acquired Bengaluru-based tech startup Creo for an undisclosed amount.

Creo Team founders were ex-Hikers.

Creo, which manufactures media streaming device Teewe, is founded by Sai Srinivas Kiran G and Shubham Malhotra in December 2013.

The Bangalore based startup now constitutes over 50+ members. Sai and Shubham were ex-employees of Hike.

"The Creo team will begin work on a developer platform to enable third party developers to build services on the Hike platform", said a Hike spokesperson.

While the move is not likely to materialise, it gives us an idea of what Pep wants from his players and what kind of profiles the club is targeting.


Now the company said it has over 300 employees spread across two offices in Delhi and Bangalore.

In the past, Creo has launched hardware products that includes streaming media dongles and smartphones.

The home-grown messaging service is looking to overtake messaging service WhatsApp and mobile wallet company Paytm to become the leading messaging and payment app in the country.

Hike Messenger, which started operation in 2012, has now acquired a user base of over 100 million in January 2016. Last year, the company raised $175 million in its fourth round of funding led by Tencent and Foxconn at a valuation of $1.4 billion.

Hike Messenger is backed by investors such as Tencent Holdings and Foxconn Technology Group, among others.
