'Law & Order: SVU' Enlists Brooke Shields for Major Recurring Role

Brooke Shields is heading to Law & Order: SVU!

Details on her character are being kept under wraps other than the tease that her role will shake up Benson's (Mariska Hargitay) world.

The two-time Golden Globe nominee noted in a statement, "I play a very different character from any I have ever played".

Election advertising rules won't apply to the postal plebiscite
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the government had legal advice that the postal ballot would withstand a court challenge. Australia now doesn't allow same-sex couples to legally marry.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the news. SVU has previously hosted high-profile guest stars like the late Robin Williams, Sharon Stone, Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg and Carol Burnett.

As previously announced, also climbing aboard the procedural-that-just-won't-quit for this season is new showrunner Michael Chernuchin, who previous year helmed Dick Wolf's one-and-done "Chicago Justice". She's also appeared on The Middle, Army Wives, That '70s Show, and Nip/Tuck. She'll also be seen this fall in the indie film Daisy Winters with castmates Iwan Rheon (Inhumans) and Carrie Preston (The Good Fight).

Law & Order: SVU returns Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
