SRINAGAR, India (AP) - Three Kashmiri rebels and two Indian soldiers have been killed in a fierce gunbattle in the disputed Himalayan region, police said Sunday.

The security forces have recovered three AK 47 from the terrorists in the operation.

Giving a major jolt to terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, Indian forces on Sunday gunned down Yasin Itoo alias Mehmood Ghaznavi, a self-styled operations commander of the terror group, PTI reported.

Three terrorists were also killed in the encounter.

He said while the security personnel were conducting combing operation, they came under a heavy volume of fire from militants hiding in the area. The slain Armymen have been identified as Tamil Nadu's Ilayaraja P, and Gawai Sumedh Waman from Maharashtra.
