The Hitman's Bodyguard impresses while Logan Lucky crumbles at weekend box office

The film received a lackluster 38% on Rotten Tomatoes - but audiences appeared to enjoy it more than critics, giving it a 75% rating on the site.

"The Hitman's Bodyguard" shot its way to the top of the box office in its opening weekend, leaving Stephen Soderbergh's "Logan Lucky" in the dust.

Indie distributor Bleecker Street distributed the pic on behalf of Soderbergh's Fingerprint Releasing.

With leads like mega-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Salma Hayek, the film surpassed its closest competition, horror film Annabelle: Creation, which earned $15.5 million. The prequel's estimated ten-day total is $64 million. Daniel Craig and Channing Tatum's "Logan Lucky" saw an opening weekend of $8 million which put it on the third spot in the top five list.

Lionsgate's action comedy debuted to a better-than-expected $21.6 million from 3,377 theaters to easily win the weekend, although it couldn't do anything to stop overall summer revenue from continuing to tumble amid a awful August.
