The fifth generation Verna is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol and 1.6 litre diesel engine that is paired to both six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission. The Verna has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm. The new Verna is based on the same Elantra platform and is said to be better to drive. The 1.6 litre Dual VTVT petrol engine develops 120 hp of power, while the 1.6 litre U2 CRDi VGT diesel unit generates 123 hp.
While the sales plan for the new Verna is to achieve average monthly sales of 4,000-5,000 units, reaching the 20,000 mark with the launch prices by the end of CY2017, any external factors like government raising the cess on large cars would imply the company transferring the price rise to the consumer's wallet. The Verna revision harbours advanced high strength steel body with an adequate weight. In terms of competition, the new Hyundai Verna will compete against the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and the Volkswagen Vento in the mid-size sedan segment.
