14-year-old dies during football practice at high school

A grieving father is speaking out about his young son who suddenly died Tuesday during a high school football practice in the Bronx.

Around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dominick collapsed while running sprints at Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Wakefield section of the Bronx.

Bess and the other students were outside exercising in shorts and T-shirts, and were not wearing pads at the time, a source told News 12 The Bronx.

The all-boys Roman Catholic prep school says the cause of death isn't yet known.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Tuesday for noon, saying the combination of heat and humidity would make temperatures feel like 95 to 99 degrees.

Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin said SAR operations are now under way for 10 missing sailors. He said other agencies involved in the SAR operation were the RMN, marine police, and Marine Department of Malaysia.


"Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, as well as coaches, the team and our student-athletes".

The school will provide grief counselors for students and staff members beginning on Wednesday.

He is at least the fifth boy to die during football practice around the country in the last two months, the AP said.

On August 10, 16-year-old Joshua Mileto died in NY after performing a drill used by the U.S. Navy SEALs for conditioning. Joshua Mileto, 16, was killed when he was struck in the head by a large log during a conditioning drill.

Emergency responders rushed the boy, whose identity was not immediately released, to Montefiore Medical Center where he died, according to sources.
